Virtually all existing organizations that I know about are strongly influenced or controlled by special interest groups. The U.N. is largely controlled by wealthy countries such as the U.S. and by its own internal politics.

The goal here is to have an organization created that cannot be controlled by special interest groups. However, it would rely on common sense and attempt to avoid alienating everyone on the planet.

This is not an easy task. Funding would probably not the major problem. Finding people to run the organization who have both a good sense of direction and some public relations skills would likely be the most difficult part. Most people have their own specialized agendas. The science of earthquake forecasting is an example of that.

Another formal step in this process got underway yesterday. It involves some of the legalities associated with such an organization.

These are personal opinions.
