Reminds me of the issue of folks wanting to refinance. Their house is worth less than they owe, but they are still paying the mortgage. They want to refinance to take advantage of lower interest rates. They are denied BECAUSE the house is underwater. Supposedly, the concern is that because of that status the owner may not be able to pay the mortgage. BUT, the whole idea of refinancing is to LOWER the payment thus making it EASIER to pay the mortgage they are already paying. As you know I'm not one prone to conspiracy theories, but I will say that our whole financial system is a scam. It used to be that it was a shame and embarrassment to be in debt, and we had debter's prisons for those who didn't pay up. Now, if you don't put yourself into debt and build a 'credit history', you are considered financially risky. People who actually pay their bills are looked down upon. I could go on....
