LA-What is the deal? |
So IMO things in the LA area from the Santa Clarita Valley down through OC seem a little on the unusual side. I look S. Cal maps everyday. I swear for the past year there is a microquake somewhere in the LA area like once every 3 months. Most of them seemed to occur near Century City or up by Valencia. About a month and a half ago, I noticed this activity quickly acclerated with micro squakes showing up throughout the San Fernando Valley, the basin and some occasional 2s, 3s and those 4s off shore. Then we had W. Hollywood. So I decided then that things would die down. But it seems they have not. Outside the aftershock zone, there seem to be consistent activity in the Valley, OC and offshore. So my question is this. Some of you on this board I've noticed seem to know micro activity like the back of your hands. Is this A) Indeed abnormal increased activity for the region. Obviously no one knows what it means, (guesses are always cool though :) ) that we will just have to wait and see and possibly just a random swarm that we see all the time throughout the state?? Or Is this B) Very normal and possibly a sign that the region has been "turned off" since Northridge and just rebounding to what it usually is. Looking at Hollister, the desert by Palm Springs and Coso Junction, something would be wrong if the microquakes stopped. So is this area overall active and has just had a slow year and is now getting back to normal? Any thoughts would be great. Everyone on this board contributes such great insight. Thanks!
