Hi All. I’m going to try to give a description as I understand where these quakes are occurring in relation to the plates that are know to be there.

The plates that are known to be located in the area are the Pacific Plate, Juan de Fuca Plate, and the Explorer Plate. Not knowing how accurate the drawings are of the plates in relation to the Lat/Long grids this is just an estimate on my part.

The quakes appear to be occurring along the junction between northern end of the Juan de Fuca Plate the southern end of the Explorer Plate at a point very close to the Pacific Plate. The portions of the Explorer and Juan de Fuca that run NE to SW are pull apart, or a rift. It appears that most of the quakes are occurring near the boundaries of the Explorer, Juan de Fuca and the Pacific Plate.

There are a couple of things that I see coming out of this.

1. The Juan de Fuca Plate is starting to rotate. Most likely a clockwise rotation.

2. The area of the quakes are the weakest point in the area and that area is starting to give, or move in relation to the movement of North American and Pacific Plates. This could be the related to the Explorer Plate, but it could also be related to the Juan de Fuca Plate. It could also be that both plates are starting to move in opposing directions.

3. It is felt the Juan de Fuca Plate is locked tight at the North American Plate. It could be possible that what were seeing now is the beginning of the release of the energy that has been building sense the last great quake in 1700. It could be the beginning of another great quake such as what occurred in 1700.

Please keep in mind that this is only speculation on my part. Any of the above could be right. They could also be wrong. There can also be any number of other possibilities that I haven’t explored yet. Anyway it’s something to think about. Take Care…Don in creepy town
