Hi Kate. The Explorer plate, a relatively small tectonic plate wedged between the North American, Pacific and Juan de Fuca plates off the western coast of Canada, is not there and may never have existed, according to Dr. Kevin P. Furlong, professor of Geosciences. Dr. K. P. Furlong presents some pretty good evidence that indeed the Explorer Plate may not be there. At least not in the sense that we know.
