Hi Canie. I haven't been able to find what I had read in the past, but I'll attach a link I did find that mentions the western slope and the weakened rock there. I'll keep reading and watching (can see Rainier out my window). I guess my wheels were churning unnecessarily in regards to my wondering if the current situation could escalate into a more dangerous situation. I realize that eventually something major will happen and until then, I will continue to enjoy the mountain and it's beauty :-)
