Earthquake Warning October 26, 2006 |
The following is most of the text of an earthquake warning that I posted earlier today to the sci.geo.earthquakes Internet Newsgroup and several others. Web Site: http://www.freewebz.com/eq-forecasting/Data.html Date: October 26, 2006A significant earthquake is expected, probably within a week or two. RECOMMENDATION: Interested Newsgroup readers should send copies of this earthquake warning to their governments and to earthquake researchers and disaster mitigation groups in their countries. COMMENTS: Several dozen earthquake warning type signals were detected during the past few weeks. And my Data.html Web page has been updated with some location information for one or more possible approaching earthquakes. Analyses of those warning signals indicate to me that present earthquake triggering conditions are somewhat similar to ones which existed during the months before earthquakes occurred in California and Bam, Iran in December of 2003. And some of the earthquakes reported in the news during the past few days have been fairly good matches for some of the warning signals. I don’t remember hearing about any studies being done regarding earthquake precursor data being collected before that December 22, 2003 California earthquake. If anyone knows of any such studies then I would like to hear about them. It would be interesting to compare precursor data which were collected at that time with data that people might presently be collecting. The data on my Data.html Web page simply state that the warning signals have characteristics which match those of the earthquakes listed in the data table on the page. They are not actual predictions. And there is an error which is inherent in the table data. Because of the way my location determination computer programs do the calculations, if a significant earthquake were about to occur at 30W for example, earthquakes would probably also appear in the table at 90, 180, and 270 degrees to the west of that location, or in this case at 120W, 150E, and 60E. That type of error is presently unavoidable. This latest expected earthquake will likely occur fairly soon. But delays for as much as two months are also possible. That happened with the highly destructive December 26, 2003 earthquake in Bam, Iran. The following are some data pertaining to that Iran earthquake and a more recent one in Pakistan: http://www.freewebz.com/eq-forecasting/Iran.html http://www.freewebz.com/eq-forecasting/Pakistan.html This information represents expressions of personal opinion.
