Hi Cathryn. I have been trying to get some answers myself. The only thing I have been able to find so far is the data is not complete. As to why the solar storm after the quake I haven’t got an answer to that one yet. Let’s just say that some of it is bad data. That is what happens when you let someone else get the data for you.
As to a second large quake shortly after a large quake. That has puzzled a number of seismologists for a long time. It may be that there was enough strain to produce one megaquake, but for whatever reason it broke with two large quakes. The area off the coast of Mexico seems to be an area that has this happens quite often. One seismologist has pointed out that when looking closer at the quakes there are areas between the quakes that have not moved. One seismologist has suggested that the next large quake could be at Acapulco. His reason for this is that there has been a large quake on both sides of that region, but none in the region. They are known as “seismic gaps” Attached is a link that shows the location of the gaps. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
