Let me rephrase the questions |
I am a native Califorian and lived thru the Sylmar quake of 1971 (was living the the San Fernando Valley at the time)and saw Olive View Hospital collapsed and the damage to roads and other buildings. I was out of town for the Northridge quake, but came back to see my parent's apartment off its foundation and the condos next door collapsed and the apartment complex across the street also collapsed with a number of fatalities. Question 1: Should I expect a mag 6-7 earthquake in my area? or will it more likely be a mag 7-8 with major structural devastation? I know what a 6-7 mag does. I've never experienced a larger quake. Question 2: Is such an earthquake imminent in my area within say the next 5-10 years or will Palm Springs, Newport or Pasadena go first?
