Re: Parkfield, Anyone? |
Hi Canie, I thought the 24th was a Friday, I see I should have said, February 26th for the tour. I'll be going down on the 25th. I need to get some afternoon shots of the Parkfield Inn for my book and without making it a two plus day event, I can't catch the right light. Late afternoon, western exposure is needed for that porch. I sure hope the weather is as nice as it was last year. At about nine in the morning it was very pleasant. I wanted to ask you a question that no one seems to have been able to answer yet, and perhaps you or someone else reading here might just have the answer. When I went to UCLA this summer to see a seismologist down there, when I flew back they went right near the top of the Carrizo Plain. Looking down at one point I saw a group of mountains that were together at the base and there were four tips at the top. These were darker than the others and were on the eastern side. On the top of each one, there was something really unusual. Each one had a light area that look just like a comma. There were none in the area that were like these. So do you know why they are like that? Is it sand from the base that pushed up toward the top? I'd love to know. Pat
