Hey Mary: Maybe they did not know ? Your word "seem" suggests coming to a conclusion without chasing down all the info. Sometimes knowledge advances when people read and understand in detail what is already presented...which may have "silver bullet' arguments which are difficult to rebut. Waiting for the next breakthrough in order to change current understanding is a sure way to remain an observer rather than a participant...depending on one's own inclinations and choices of course. Yes...indeed, maybe we are all still 'babes in the woods' about the earth's history and future. I agree though that often times personal bias will effect the way we perceive and present things. The question is: Where did the personal bias come from ? So your use of the word "seem" is very consistent with the way the mind seems to work sometimes.... Just a few thoughts worth...
