The National Geophysical Data Center has chosen to abandon most aspects of their
geophysical hazards programs due to lack of funding. Some will be maintained at a bare
threads minimum with the hope that Congress will see fit at some time in the future to
re-energize these attempts at hazard mitigation through data analysis and collection.
Unfortunately this means I must go along with the programs. I will be moving to Maine
sometime next week and my future communications with this board will be quite limited.
