Note to Amit Dave, Pavel, Roger, and Shan – February 18, 2013 Hi folks, Amit Dave, Pavel, Roger, and Shan, you can jump down to the FORECASTING RESEARCH section if you don’t want to read this first general background information section GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION There was a major project that had to be completed last week (and it was). And also for the past few months I have been having to spend a lot of time and energy trying to keep a friend who has been having major congestive heart failure problems from going off to the great beyond. He has now had a special type of pacemaker device installed that restarts the heart when it stops and also encourages the heart muscle to pump at the right time. And he is expected to make a full recovery. So, I am now starting to get back to some of my regular scientific projects. Nonprofit Foundation A major project that is now officially underway involves getting a special nonprofit foundation established that will keep detailed lists of all of the problems out there that threaten people’s health and lives and our global economies. Foundation personnel would also try to develop solutions for solving those problems or at least keeping them under control. If you spend enough time sending free advice to governments regarding how to solve world problems then you will eventually discover that our world is too complicated for any government or nongovernmental organization to keep track of all of the problems they should be trying to solve. So, we need a nonprofit foundation that can do that type of work. And I have now formally recommended to high level U.S. officials that they should be working on the creation of such a foundation themselves. I used the science of earthquake forecasting and our problems with global energy shortages as examples of why this type of foundation needs to be created. What might be the single most serious threat to our future? Most people probably wouldn’t propose that it is the following: Our most serious threat might be the possibility of an extremely large rock hitting the planet and doing so much damage that the human race and perhaps most or all animal and plant life on Earth could become extinct. Fortunately, there are already quite a few professional and amateur astronomers out there who are both aware of that possible problem and are watching the skies for large chunks of rock. But, I believe that there is actually a possibility that events could take place possibly involving the collision of two otherwise harmless large rocks out in space that could send one of them headed towards the Earth without our being aware that this was happening. And if it approached us while remaining hidden behind the image of the sun or the moon in the sky then it might eventually abruptly appear and provide us with only a year or less warning to do something. The chances of that happening are probably remote. But considering that it could send us all in the direction of the dinosaurs, it is something that personnel working for this proposed foundation would want to have high on their “potential threats” list. FORECASTING RESEARCH My Etdprog.exe earthquake forecasting program was recently updated with routines that increase the ease with which other types of data can be displayed and compared with my own data and with earthquake data. Roger and I were working on a separate program for doing that. But the effort got sidetracked for some reason. And I am now incorporating those data display routines in the Etdprog.exe program. Amit Dave, Pavel, and Shan, I can have the program display all of your data on those charts. AMIT DAVE, Your forecast data are fairly easy to display as is. PAVEL, Your Excel chart files will work for that. But the data format should be optimized so that they were easier for my program to read. I am working on an update for your Web page that is stored on my Web site. It will display quite a few data associated with those recent Solomon Islands earthquakes. They provided a virtual gold mine of data for earthquake researchers. Strong EM Signals pointing to them look like they were being generated perhaps as far back as July of 2012. SHAN. Your data would need to be in a text file that my program can read. And if you are interested we could discuss format details. Text file lines might look like this: 2013/02/16 01:23:45 5N 145W 8 mag The first two entries would be the UTC data for a possible earthquake. Then there would be the latitude and longitude. And finally there would be the magnitude. My program would then display those data on charts along with actual earthquakes and other optional types of data such as my own data, Pavel’s data, and sun and moon gravity and distance data and Solid Earth and ocean tide data. I could send you a computer program that you could use to very easily create those data text files. It is a little difficult for me to use automated computer programs to extract those types of data from your Web site. Or, perhaps we could find someone who could help by extracting those data from your Web site and storing them in a text file. ROGER, If you get your latest Internet problems solved and are looking for a project to work on you could try comparing Etgtab.exe program ocean tide data with the data at the following Web site to see if they are in good agreement. http://tbone.biol.sc.edu/tide/index.html If they are then you could get together with people on the Fortran Newsgroup and see if they could help you translate the Fortran version of Etgtab into TrueBasic. These are personal opinions.
