Tidal triggering |
John Vidale stated: "And tides ARE too small to trigger earthquakes MUCH, more than a very tiny fraction of the time. Check out my Science paper with Cochran, and in addition, I compared the entire Harvard catalog of earthquakes with a more sophisticated tidal calculation than is generally available, which I didn't publish because everyone knows already that tidal influence is tiny." I wrote: Dear John, I read your paper (Kennedy et al.) about the tidal triggering of earthquakes and I made the same test for the population. I found that most of the people are hermaphrodites. You mixed pears and apples together. We made better tests (depending on tidal phase in 3-D tidal space) and we found that there are 2 kinds of earthquakes, which are triggered by 2 various tidal mechanisms. The significance level of this statement is better than 99%. Read our book. The results are published in our book "Tilts, global tectonics and earthquake prediction" - Fig. 4.21 and 4.22.. I put these two figures to my gallery: For the first time it was published here: http://www.ig.cas.cz/userdata/files/conferences/geodynamics-2007/PreliminaryProgramme.htm Follow Ups: ● Re: Tidal triggering - Skywise 09:33:31 - 8/23/2012 (80182) (1) ● Re: Tidal triggering - Pavel Kalenda 10:53:12 - 8/23/2012 (80183) (2) ● Re: Tidal triggering - EQF 19:07:26 - 8/23/2012 (80189) (0) ● Tidal triggering - never mind - John Vidale 13:47:21 - 8/23/2012 (80184) (1) ● Re: Tidal triggering - never mind - Pavel Kalenda 22:28:28 - 8/23/2012 (80191) (1) ● Never mind - John Vidale 00:04:40 - 8/24/2012 (80192) (0) |
