A Proposed Web Site Based Earthquake Forecasting And Research Information And Data Clearinghouse
Posted by EQF on July 5, 2011

This is a project that is presently in the discussion stage. Helpful comments are welcome.

The following is the official Web site for the International Society for Earthquake Precursors. It is run by a nonprofit foundation in England, I believe.

http://www.isfep.com

The people running the site are apparently not Internet experts. And so the following is being proposed.

I am planning to contact them to see if they would like to host an additional Web site that would be function as a type of subdirectory for their ISEP Web site. I could get the new site running for them and help maintain it. It would probably be on my own Internet Server which is fairly well organized for hosting bulletin boards and running CGI programs etc. Plus, my server has a discussion board where information concerning site related topics can be found. I don’t know what resources are available on the server that the ISEP people are using.

One goal would be to have a bulletin board on the new site where earthquake researchers could post reports. They would have the ability to include charts and picture files. That cannot be done very easily with this EarthWaves board and not at all with the Yahoo EarthWaves board.

The site could also have a data entry screen through which people could submit earthquake precursor data for storage, processing, and display at the site. The initial precursor data display might look something like the following:

I don’t have the time available for developing and running those types of resources myself. So, volunteer workers such as Web site development experts would need to help.

A longer range goal would be to have some organization such as the United Nations serve as the host for an international earthquake forecasting data clearinghouse. However, it would probably take a year or more to get that type of resource running if it were even possible. An additional Web site for the ISEP organization could probably get organized in a few months.
