O/T: Tornado warning, rainbow, and beer

O/t=off topic. I was pretending to work after a talk about Devonian extinctions (don't ask...longer ago than I care about), and saw that a severe thunderstorm had popped up and was headed towards "heartland U". One of HW's students said that rather than be in our very sturdy geology dept., we should be in the flimsy nearby bar for the storm. After a quick mental cost-benefit-risk assessment, I decide, "sure". So, after a couple of tiny 25 oz beers (for less than you Californians pay for the same volume of gas), the sirens went off. I went outside to the patio and there was a nice rainbow off to the east. I was talking to some of the patio bar patrons and they suggested that the sirens were a "rainbow warning" and not a "tornado warning". I thought that this opinion was entirely reasonable. For example, our socialist Kenyan muslim president had rainbow colors on his "hope" emblem so clearly he would order the national weather service to let us know if we should go outside to see the rainbow.

So, I went back inside and ordered another drink. Not a single person seemed concerned. And that include me, and I am scared of sharks in swimming pools, and airline pilots, and anything else I have no control over (for example, Sarah Palin and Donald Trump).

Nothing happened and I biked home and made this post and there is a tornado warning for the St Louis area from the same storm. Or, maybe it is a rainbow warning.

Chris
