Hmmm...I better steer clear of the thought in case it does go (the injured and the relatives of the dead people might not appreciate it), but it seems safe enough to say that the stress/strain has built up on the southern San Andreas system a whole lot faster than it has been released since 1987, and probably over the last 40 years. (certainly true south of Landers 1992).
