computers and O/T |
For the second time in my career I have to pack up a computer and send it back for repair. I paid for on-site next day service, but bought the computer from a small company and the people they had for service went bankrupt. Luckily, I have a 6 year-old laptop that will run the seismic reflection interpretation software that I use much of the time..I have not upgraded that software in a year or 2, which is fortunate. The problem is that something failed with the graphics so I can't use the second monitor. Trying to digitally interpret seismic reflection data involves comparing one profile to another and to a base map. Hard to do that on one screen. Well...better get back to remapping the area around the intersection of the offshore Santa Monica-Dume fault and the Malibu Coast fault...SW of Pt. Dume.....faults and top Miocene (5 million years) and top volcanics (16 million years). Much digital data are now available: we did it a few years ago with paper prints of less data...but came up with some interesting results (Journal Geophysical Research, Nov. 2006).
