No, the cause of quakes is not incorrect.

Yes, we know about earthquake lights. My boss (one of them) Dr John Derr published a paper or 2 on them but they do not cause quakes. It's the other way around. The breaking of the quartz containing layers releases piezoelectric energy which shows up as light.

It is not associated with lightning as far as I know.
