Still looking for some data to show that there is no relationship to lightning.

Just checked the USGS search list of about 30 years data for the coordinates 30N - 25N and 85W to 80W. Only produces one event over the 30 years data and does not even give a magnitude. Oh yeah, that happens to be the lightning capital of USA. FLORIDA
