Do Geomagnetic Storms Trigger Earthquakes

Hi All. You get answers to questions never asked. This one came in my e-mail this afternoon and concerns Turkmenistan.

“It has been observed that an earthquake of Ms 7.5 on November 4, 1946 was preceded by 7 days by a strong geomagnetic storm, as was the earthquake on December 6, 2000. There was another large earthquake in the region on July 8, 1895 and was also preceded by 7 days by a strong geomagnetic storm on June 30-July 1, 1895, the strongest in the month of July 1895.”

It should be noted that the Loma Prieta quake occurred a couple of days after a geomagnetic storm.

So the answer to the question do geomagnetic storms trigger earthquakes is. Maybe they do part of the time, but not all of the time. Or maybe not all as it was nothing more then a coincident. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
