Plagiarism is not a big issue among research publications in seismology. It's a small field, and if someone copied someone else's words, it would be easy to detect and prove. I don't think I've ever heard of a case. It's a non-issue. In other fields, occasional cases have arisen, more likely go undetected, but still its quite uncommon. On the other hand, people frequently suspect others have taken their ideas without proper credit. My attitude is that ideas are cheap, proving them is difficult. And many think their ideas are so clever that no one else could have thought of them, but we're really not all that much cleverer than each other. And frankly, I'm more interested in new ideas than their history. Not sure if this addresses your question.
