Three questions |
First, thanks Petra for asking such an interesting question. Second, thanks Don for supplying such great research. Now, to my questions: 1) Don, why did your data end in Feb., 1994? Is there no more current data to be found? 2) Why are places that experienced a large earthquake more likely than less to have another large EQ within the next two years? I would assume the opposite; that because of the release of stress from the first large EQ, the odds of a second one in the same area would go down, not up. On the other hand, after observing EQ patterns for a year and a half (not exactly a long time, especially geologically speaking), I've noticed this very phenomenon. I just don't understand it. 3) How can a geomagnetic storm that occurs several days AFTER a large EQ be linked to it statistically? I thought these solar flares were considered precursors, often with a few days delay, as is the case of eclipses. (Witness Turkey.) If any of you have answers to these questions, I'd love to hear them.
