Prediction In The News & The First PSA

Hi All,

Don and I were on our way to Clear Lake this morning when they ran a short news report on the quake in Piedmont last night and immediately following they had an interview they did with Mary Lou Zobach (USGS). She mentioned how the Parkfield earthquake came as a total surprise and how its pattern which seemed as though it might be predictable proved otherwise; despite having sensitive instruments in the area. She said it appears prediction will not be occurring any time in the near future.

This evening on the way home we heard the first Public Service Announcement (PSA), which was sponsored by the California Earthquake Authority. The PSA reminded everyone they needed to prepare and focused on bolting tall furniture to the wall, placing straps on TV's and a few other items and said these could be purchased at hardware stores. Then they offered the publication "Putting Down Roots in Earthquake Country" and where it could be secured.

So, at long last, another item on my wish list has arrived. I'm jazzed.

Petra
