Looked at your neat rock photos--and yes indeed! I can only give you an educated guess since I can't examine the rock personally, but these do look like "knockers," probably blueschist. This blueschist is characteristic of the Franciscan Formation, and yes, the cherts are beautiful! There is a spot called Blue Canyon visible from HWY 154 (don't look too long, the road is dangerous!)filled with great Franciscan rocks. As to "Knockers".... This is an old term, and almost all geologists are familiar and unoffended. I guess that we could call the "nodules" something else...but hey, why push it! (Grins). Another possibility for your orangish rock is harzburgite, a rather rare and wonderful ophiolite component. It weathers fairly quickly from dark greenish to reddish due to high iron content. Rocks are wonderful, wonderful things. As charming as a good book if you know how to read them!
