Hello Penny again,My favorite hike in that area is the one from upper Oso campground to the top of Little Pine Mountain. I posted on that back in April, after I had a really nice hike with the lupines (and a few poppies, and a bunch of other flowers) being at their peak. You cross quite a bit of geology, of course, including the Little Pine fault...which in my mind pretty much has to be active. You still in the Santa Barbara area? I'll be at UCSB the last 2 weeks June and may spend a weekend day with 2 grad students on some sort of hike to look at rocks...I'm trying to figure out the best place to go...the swimming hole at Red Rocks at the end of Paradise Road has the blue streak of the Little Pine fault, massive pressure solution just south of it, and an outcrop of Monterey Formation that has some dozens of slickensides...which I measured and did nothing with...and the Monterey from there to the parking has 3 large and tight folds...hard to see unless you look for them... The most spectacular area for rocks and faults is Santa Cruz Island...but that does not work for a 1 day trip... Chris
