$250 billion quake

The link to SCEC shows a report on expected $250 billion is losses and many deaths from a large future quake on the Puente Hills fault. I would have referenced this report in my pending proposal to USGS-NEHRP to do more study, and make sure to get a publication done, on a fault system that may also be capable of a similar catastrophic quake...the faults that create the onshore and offshore parts of the Palos Verdes anticlinorium....the structure that produces uplift of Palos Verdes Hills...

So, how would my research save lives? I suppose if it becomes clear that these beasts are lurking beneath L.A., the economics of building to survive very long durations of strong ground motion would look different than they did, say, before now, or before 1987....
