Simple question..

Hi all! NASA Scientist Friedemann Freund, during Dec. 12, 2001 American Geophysical Union (AGU) meeting said " Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates, huge jigsaw-like sections of the Earth's outermost layers, rub against each other. Sometimes they collide head-on... During that period stress level is high, and then electronic charges appear. When charges flow, they constitute an electric current. They will change 'the ground,' and they should cause the Earth's surface to become positively charged over a region that may measure tens or even hundreds of kilometers." Here is my question arise from my poor mind that if that is the case, if we connected a load for example say an electric light between the ground and a positive terminal of power supply available at our homes, which should glow, normally since it takes negative charge from the ground. When the ground becomes positively charged before an earthquake, the electric light which now turned off slowly or suddenly depending upon the positive charge received from the ground, as per statement of Friedemann Freund. Or we can adopt a suitable 'Load' instead of an electric light for alerting the general public in the areas particularly situated in fault zones. Any thoughts... Shan 3rd Aug. 2003
