Re: Solar Flare Today/For Those Interested |
Hi Chris & Canie: Here's a copy of the list from the other day with the locations in the area which were in the highest (sub-solar) affected regions, which totalled 8 for the two day period. Updated as of Wed Jun 11 22:05:32 UTC 2003. DATE-(UTC)-TIME Latitude Longitude Depth Magnitude COMMENTS 2003/06/11 04:14:50 24.01N 142.81E 33.0 4.6 VOLCANO ISLANDS, JAPAN REGION As I am a frequent daily observer of solar impacts I can say imphatically that C class flares depending on the location of impact can be far more intense than X Class Flares. Also as the X-Class Flares start to diminish in intensity the scale on the page shows the intensities as it goes down. So for instance if there was a X-1, when it got down to a C it shows the effects at that time. We have to remember that with the Earths rotation one must come across the flare at the moment of its impact in order to assess which areas would be most affected by the event. Though the graphic I put on my web page was not of such good quality because it is a gif file, the flare was a C-7. Petra
