Canie-how exactly are charged particles going to excite the mantle? First, what we see first-8 minutes after they occur (speed of light) is the electromagentic radiation, including the X-rays that show on the graph that defines the level of the flare. The particles do not travel at the speed of light-and these seem to take a couple days top arrive, and cause the geomagnetic storms (I think). You have a bit of a mix in your post-you see no relationship, yet you state that certain things happen. You say these things happen because someone told you they happen (?). You may want to figure out for yourself whether it makes sense and whether you think it happens. Then, make a post and let us know what you find out. But simply making unsubstantiated claims is not all that interesting to me. Which is why I just ignore (don't generally read) some of the threads on this board (I do read all of your posts, Canie...).

Why don't you (or someone else) identify a region like Geysers or Coso or Quebec or the East African rift and plot X flares vs earthquakes over some magnitude (or, energy release of earthquakes-not as easy to do....).

Chris
