Hi Chris - What I was trying to say is that there are a number of different types of energy coming from the sun or solar effects and they all act differently -
I don't really know enough about the details of solar science but I have seen (not documented and charted) relationships that appear to behave differently - some particles seem to suppress any quakes, other energies enhance. You've also got effects to the magnetosphere - I think these all need to be studied separately.

Just taking flares vs large quakes finds no relationship (in my estimation) - Your suggestion of taking a place like mammoth or the geysers and tracking it against solar data is a good idea. But I think we need to look at the different types of energies as well as in combination.
