Hi Chris. Petra has never asked for money. What she was referring to is that the Outreach Program done by USGS has no money in the budget to even print a small pamphlet about what to do before, during and after an earthquake.

You would think that in a place such as Hollister you could find material about how to prepare for a major quake. There isn’t any. Having lived in Japan for 10 years I got kind of use to seeing something on the TV at least once a week about what should be done before the next major quake. However there was one little problem with this. It was selective about the areas the information was given. This was why the city of Kobe wasn’t prepared for their quake. No one thought there would be a quake of the magnitude they struck there.

My job as an analyst showed me one thing that is people’s nature. If they aren’t told about something from time to time they will forget it. Only once have I ever seen anything on the idiot machine about preparing for the next major quake. This was on the anniversary of the Loma Prieta quake. Even when there is a report on that news about an earthquake in the Hollister area there wasn’t anything said about preparing for the next major quake.

From what I have learned is that if and when the day comes that they will be able to predict a major quake it isn’t going to do any good because the people are not prepared for it. Take Care…Don in creepy town
