Hi Mike. During the past two weeks a number of people in the "Earth sensitives" community have been expressing concern about possible approaching seismic activity. It would not surprise me if there were an indirect link between the signals which they have been detecting and the present position of the moon relative to the Earth.

On another note, I believe that over the years a number of people have generated earthquake forecasts which were based solely on the position of the moon relative to the Earth. And I seem to remember that some were successful while others were not. My own theories and those of some other people propose that the probability that a powerful earthquake will occur around the time of moon apogee or perigee can also be strongly affected by factors such as whether or not a fault zone somewhere is about ready to fracture on its own anyway, the position of the sun in the sky relative to the equator, the orbital plane of the moon relative to the Earth, and perhaps certain random events such as geomagnetic and atmospheric storms. It might also be that an approaching powerful earthquake can influence geomagnetic and/or atmospheric storms leading people to believe that the storm triggered the earthquake.

There appears to me to be enough interest in this subject matter that at some point in the not too distant future we might have some generally accepted answers for questions regarding how many of our earthquakes are being triggered.
