Loss of Printed PDE (Preliminary Determination of Epicenters)
Posted by Lowell on February 25, 2002 at 11:25:00:

USGS announced on Feb. 20, 2002 that the published version of the Preliminary
Determination of Epicenters would no longer be published. For more than 30 years
this has been the primary source of earthquake information for the general public.
While the information will be available on an ftp web site, libraries will no longer have
printed versions of this material, making it difficult for the amateur scientist to find
or investigate specific earthquake information. Another way to maintain power and
information in the hands of the few, I guess, another sign of the times. Still it is
sad to see such a useful and venerable publication go by the wayside.
