Extremely powerful CME and Kp 9 sudden commencement Geomagnetic storm on seismograms

or the doubters among you who still do not believe that there is
considerable disturbance on seismometers associated with strong
CME, I would suggest your take a gander at the seismograms tonight
for the two strong CME's that arrived in the past 3 hours. The
Kp index is now 9 - as high as it will go. For graphics, forecast
and general information see:
http://sec.noaa.gov/today.html

For specific data on exact timing of CME collisions see:

http://sec.noaa.gov/ftpdir/lists/geomag/20011106_G8mag_1m.txt

The two CMEs arrived at 01:52-01:53 UT tonight (05:52 PST)
and 03:57 UT (7:57 UT PST)

The collison was well recorded on a number of seismograms. Jen of
New Zealand has already noted the disturbance on the Karori and
Cannon Point seismograms in New Zealand, but here are others
to check:

At 01:53 the change in the total field was about 50%. Seismograms
recorded this event as follows:

La Paz, Bolivia (LPAZ) 01:53 slight up first motion
Wright Valley Antarctica (VNDA) 01:53 Strong down first motion
Adak, Aleutians (ADK ) 01:53 slight up first motion
College Outpost Alaska (COLA) 01:53 slight up first motion
Guam, (GUMO) 01:53 slight first motion
Kongsberg, Norway (KONO) 01:53 strong down first motion
Petropavlovsk, Russia (PET ) 01:53 slight up first motion
So. Karori, N.Z. (SNZO) 01:53 very strong down first motion
Yakutsk, Russia (YAK) 01:52 Strong down first motion

A second CME arrived at 03:57 and was very strongly recorded
at:

Adak, Aleutians (ADK ) 03:57 Very strong up first motion
So. Karori, N.Z. (SNZO) 03:57 very strong down first motion

These seismograms suggest a strong reaction to the collisions
of the earth with the solar wind. This will probably show up
in seismicity. In fact, shortly after the first CME a series of
three events of Ml 2.8 , 2.7 and 2.4 began in the Coalinga area.
Since Don had forecast these events, an additional posting will
be made as we see what the progress of this sequence is.
