Earthquake forecasting question |
COMMENT: It is my belief that the answer to the following question might be important to the ability of people living in remote areas to tell when at least some earthquakes are going to occur near them. PROPOSED: A rigid pole is stuck straight down into the ground perhaps 10 meters or 30 feet. When an earthquake is approaching in a fault zone near that pole, might the pole tilt in one direction or another? Or might it twist on its long axis? QUESTION: Have any scientific studies been conducted regarding forecasting earthquakes by monitoring such tilts or twists?
