British Columbia thrust quake |
I was surprised that there was a thrust quake that far north: The Queen Charlotte fault zone is right -lateral strike slip. I am curious what caused the late, and disruptive, now cancelled tsunami warning for Hawaii. Must have been an ocean bottom pressure sensor confirming a tsunami. Other thoughts include whether you could have similar thrust quake offshore southern California. Was last night's 7.7 on an old subduction zone? Or was it just in the continental crust? HD and I (soon to be ID and I) are driving back to Heartland from the Island and in Ohio there were convoys of utility trucks headed NE for Sandy no doubt.
