Earthquake Precursor Project - Second Project For The New Bulletin Board - February 23, 2011 |
The new bulletin board now contains an introductory discussion of an Earthquake Precursor Project that was recently outlined on this bulletin board. One of the goals of that project is to create one or more Web pages and perhaps a bulletin board that will discuss precursors that people living near fault zones might be able to observe before an earthquake occurs, and other types of precursors such as high radon gas levels and surface temperature changes that only researchers with the right type of monitoring equipment would be able to detect. Posters to the EarthWaves boards, visitors, and others are being invited to participate in all of these efforts by posting notes here with additional information and recommendations etc. There was a powerful earthquake last September in New Zealand. And the highly destructive one that occurred several days ago on February 21, 2011 in New Zealand has been described in some reports as an aftershock for that first earthquake. It would be reasonable to expect that a powerful aftershock might occur some time after that first one. And had people living and working in the area where it occurred been watching for different types of earthquake precursors then perhaps they might have spotted its approach.
