Ear Tone Data Needed For The Recent Los Angeles Earthquake July 31, 2008 |
As most people are probably aware, the following earthquake gave the city of Los Angeles a pretty good shake. MAP 5.4 2008/07/29 18:42:15 33.955 -117.765 13.6 During the past few decades I developed earthquake forecasting computer programs that attempt to match electromagnetic pulses such as the ones that some theories propose are responsible for Ear Tones, with earthquakes. Some of the types of data that the programs generate can be seen on the following Web page. http://www.freewebz.com/eq-forecasting/Data.html A effort that has been underway for quite a while involves getting the programs into a form where they can be given for free use to people around the world. Processing the data involves too many steps at the moment. They work for earthquakes occurring around the world. But the data I have suggest that they might work best for people who are living near a fault zone where an earthquake is going to occur. Some of the signals apparently don’t travel very far. If there are any people who have Ear Tone data collected during the weeks or even months before that California earthquake and they were willing to share them temporarily or permanently then it would be appreciated if they visited my Web site and used the e-mail address at the bottom of any of the Web pages to send them to me. Or they can be posted here in a response to my note. The plan is to run the data through my computer programs and generate charts like the ones on that Data.html Web page. Hopefully, some of the Ear Tone data will match the data for that earthquake indicating that they were probably linked. Copies of the charts will be sent to your e-mail address so you can see the results yourself. You should state in your e-mail letter if it would be okay for me to add the data to my permanent database file. Otherwise I will delete them after a few days. And let me know if I can discuss the results in an EarthWaves note. Your name and e-mail address will not be used in the note. What is needed is simply the time that the Ear Tone was detected. At the moment, the ear, left or right, that the sound was heard in and its duration, intensity, and frequency are not used by the program. If possible the data should have the UTC time format and look like this: 2008/07/25 15:23:06 If you are not certain how to covert your times to UTC then just stating that your data are in Pacific Coast time or wherever would be fine. For research purposes it would be helpful if you could also state very roughly how far away from the earthquake the data were collected. 10 miles, 100, 1000 etc. My programs use a three letter code to identify countries and Ear Tone data from different people. It you have such a code that you would like used and it is not like a country or U.S. state abbreviation (Cal, Nev, Jpn, Itl, Aus etc.) then you can include that in your e-mail note. Otherwise I will just create a code myself. Finally, If you are one of the estimated one in 1000 people who can hear Ear Tones then this might be a good opportunity to see if they would be of use with a formal earthquake forecasting program run by some university or government agency. Ear Tone data sent to me by research personnel in another country plus my own data indicate to me that they are probably useful for detecting earthquakes occurring around the world. The goal with this present effort is to see if they work best for people living near where an earthquake occurs.
