My locale is pretty far off the beaten track so I've never been to a book signing. Yours will be my first author-inscribed book. Some 15 years or so ago, I was at a Seismological Society of America meeting in Ixtapa, Mexico. During a break I found myself sitting under a beach palapa with a fairly emminent seismologist (his name now escapes me, but his name is one I know is frequently encountered in the literature), and he inscribed, pithily, a copy of Richter's "Elementary Seismology" I had with me. Unfortunately, it was a public library copy. Upon my return, I seriously considered keeping it and reporting it lost to the library. But I returned it, and it sits there still on the shelves.
