EQ Prediction to be proved impossible? |
In our local newspaper this morning, there was an article about seismic sensors being established in various areas of the Santa Clarita Valley. One reason being that the Santa Clarita Valley is part of the Ventura basin and as such has a lot thicker crust then other areas do. The article had also mentioned that Newhall had born the brunt of the Northridge quake (which I'll attest to). Anyway, Dr. Lucille Jones made the following statement: "We're pretty close to proving it's impossible to predict earthquakes. Even if we knew when the 30 or so earthquakes were going to happen each day, as far as we can tell, the size of an earthquake is determined during the earthquake itself. The question now is, how do we live without prediction?" I'm curious as to what this proof is?
