Re: Earthquakes and lightning

Hi again Roger. From the lack of responses, it seems you are no longer at your computer or just not interested in this subject. If anyone else is out there and has comments, please feel free.

I just checked the USGS 30 year data for a rectangular area. Maybe I put in the wrong coordinates or something, but I can't figure it out. There is some weird stuff going on in the Cameroons and I thank Roger for bringing it up.

I checked from 6.44N, 10.3E (Cameroon volcanic fields) to 4.2N, 9.17E (Mt. Cameroon, an active volcano) and the search returned zero earthquakes. When I suggested that there could be a relationship of earthquakes and lightning, I did not think it would include volcanoes. Since it seems the volcanic field and Mt. Cameroon would be seismically active, maybe I did not search correctly.

Another odd thing I've come across so far is that Lake Nyos and Lake Monoun, both in Cameroon are two of only three lakes in the world that contain disolved gas. Not only that but the conductivity of the deep water in that area is also strange. In Lake Monoun @ 95m, the conductivity is 2370 S/cm and at lake Nyos @ 200m, the water is 1500 S/cm. Very strange. The only other lake in the world with disolved gas is also in east Africa. All this seems really strange to me since I think there may also be some relationship to Odzala. Odzala is a national park in the Congo, very near Cameroon, that animals flock to for some strange reason. Animals often go there and preditors/prey will go in harmony. Odzala has clearings that cannot be explained in the middle of dense forsts and at times the bugs are so thick it is difficult to see. Elephants in particular travel huge distances to get to these clearings for no known reason. A USGS search of Odzala also produces no results for earthquakes in that area.

Anyone have any thoughts, comments or similar ideas?
