I think Cairo is in Egypt - did you mean to say Cairo? There might be one in India but I am unfamiliar with it. Yes - building good buildings is the key and proper land use - don't build right on the fault lines! On another note, I heard recently that the average number of years between big Cascadia events is 500 years - if the law of averages holds out then a lot of folks living now will be happy. A lot can be done in 200 years to retro-fit - but then again I'd say its hard to retrofit for a 9+quake! But... I'm sure it can be done unless you are on a fault line or in the way of a tsunami.
