Hi Cathryn - you've been quite specific that you want a scientist to answer, so I'll refrain. But I do have a question. Which "predictors think the SAF is only capable of an 8+ earthquake"? That is clearly wrong.

My guess is that the scientific response you seek will not assist you in sleeping better, except inasmuch as you may be reminded of the typically very long intervals between major energy releases on faults.
