There was a 3.9 or something foreshock about 30 s before...long enough to get out of your Adobe building (or unreinforced masonry). We got out of bed after Northridge...we were 100 km west...and sat in car for a while....then went back to be...the problem with foreshocks are that they can be seconds, hours...days...or not at all in most cases...
