The 100th Anniversary of the Great SF Earthquake |
Hi Chris, The entire SF Bay Area will be wall to wall with events this year as the Centennial Alliance rolls out its commerative plans to help us understand the earthquake, our fault status and earthquake safety. The SSA housed in El Cerrito sits right on top of the Hayward Fault and there's every good reason they should hold their event in SF this year. I'll be there too. I am going to attend the annual Bell Ringing event on 4/18 at around 5am, the actual anniversary. If possible I'm going to rent a room in the hotel where Enrico Caruso slept the night before the earthquake (perhaps the exact same room) and I will be wearing period clothing circa 1906 to the event. Other than that, Linda Gee who was in charge of UCB's participation has moved to another state and I need to learn if her replacement needs any volunteers. So I'll help if they need me. I have been following the progress of this event for two years and have personally offered suggestions for earthquake safety education through Lind. It has been exciting to see how many interesting events have been developed and to know we here in the Bay Area will be reminded that we do indeed live in earthquake country. And if time permits my company through my direction will also be participating. I have to plan one and gather volunteers. Nothing new there...LOL. Perhaps you too can "be there when it happens."
