Not So Zero |
Hi Don & All, The areas of the 1833 and the 1861 quakes would be prime candidates for a major quake. While it may be true that there is nothing there that suggests another major quake is going to occur, there was also nothing to suggest that the 2004 quake was going to occur. Earthquakes don’t send out messages saying they are about to occur, so you had better get ready. At least none that we have been able to detect. Take Care…Don in creepy town We don't know for a fact that there were no precursors by any means. And while they say the animals fled before the tsunami, they probably fled before the earthquake, which was hours before the tsunami hit in many areas. This is such a gray area, even nearly a year later. And what of Kerry Sieh who ran all over telling everyone a big quake was going to happen with the fervor of an Emporer? What did he know that remains a secret today? No one acts like that unless they know something and I believe he knew. There are plenty of area's not far from the off shore Banda Aceh epicenter which were greatly influenced by the intense shaking and changes in the earth, so for anyone to say it is not possible, I'm sorry, I think it is more likely than ever. Have we not seen for an entire year the influences? How many earthquakes of a 6.0 or greater magnitude does one need to slowly and surely create a situation which is all but normal? I only wish we could say, "run for the hills" should a large earthquake occur because mostly, they don't have any hills. Banda Aceh is flatter than pancake. Petra
