Gulf Of Mexico M6.0 |
An M6.0 quake occurred today in the Gulf of Mexico. According to CNN, "[USGS seismic analyst Jessica]Sigala said that since the surrounding terrain is fairly flat, the earthquake would travel far and fast. I don't know what to make of that statement-anybody have a guess? I do know that Eastern U.S. quakes' intensity falls off much more slowly with distance than in the West, primarily due to the geology in the East being much less fractured, but this seems to be saying something else . . . The quake was fairly shallow at 6.2 miles. Michael Williams in Arroyo Grande, CA USA
