Can you imagine if there was a strong earthquake (meaning a 6 1/2 or 7) nearby, when the water table is high? The news pictures made the soil look like sand. I imagine that there must be at least geotechnical study of ancient landslides....I wonder if you could date old landslides to see if a lot of them occurred at the same time....meaning an earthquake (and/or wet winter).
