Re: STATISTICAL ACCURACY / PROBABILITY ?

Hi Christopher. To my way of thinking if someone is making a prediction just so they can claim they predicted a certain quake then I guess it would be a good prediction.

However it wouldn’t be a useful prediction in that it doesn’t give a specific location in which lives could be saved. The same thing would apply to the date the quake is expected to occur. That is the goal of short-term prediction.

The date for the quake should take into account how long business would have to shut down. Now long would they have to stop trains and like vehicles from running? How long would they have to shut off the gas in order to reduce the number of fires? How much supplies would the hospital have to order in order to cover the injuries. How many of the hospitals are there that may not survive an M>8.0 quake? How long would the power be out? How long would the people have to get water from somewhere else? The list goes on.

A couple of wrong predictions would be like shooting yourself in the foot. How many people are going to listen when the good prediction is made? That’s just my personal opinion on it. Take Care…Don in creepy town
